  1. Well I would disagree with the writer. The colonists were just like a teenager. The colonists moved out and were rebellious and excited for the freedom. The British like a mom still tried to watch over and set rules but the colonists were "grown up, moved out, and free" and didn't want their "Mom's" rules. Just like a typical teen-parenting scenario. Also, the writer put many times that the colonists "orchestrated" what the British did. Yet isn't that just typical magazine cover stuff today? They put the bad and anti stuff but leave out the good. It's a typical human thing. They knew it was coming and the British knew it was coming and maybe other countries knew it was coming. The Indians could've even sensed it! It's just a natural thing that people should respect.

  5. I am half in agreement with the author and half in disagreement. While the colonists didn't have any representation in Parliament, they put themselves in the position to not be represented. Also, they were very whiny and quick to react, and sometimes overreact at things that really aren't a big problem. They helped put Britain into debt, so they should therefor expect to help pay off the debt. But, at the same time, Britain shouldn't have been as harsh on the colonists as they were. After the colonists protested their taxes, the Acts that they put into order were a little extreme.
All in all, I can see how both sides were being immature and unfair, bringing on the Revolution.

  6. i believe that the colonists had the rights to break away because they didn't have all the rights they needed and wanted. the english were also passing to many acts that controlled them. I also think eventually the english would of figured out they are gonna break away.- Lance.

  7. i think that the colonists had their right to leave. they were also being pushed around by the english and being told what to do. i think that the english should have noticed this and let them be free of what they wanted to do, or where they wanted to live! -jordan McDaniel

  8. I think that the colinist were finally let free out of Brittin and the king thought he could easily countrol them over a sea. (That was a dumb move king). Then every body expected freedom and almost no taxes at all. But the got taxed alot and got strict control over the british military. I think this was all the kings fault and shouldent the colinist just go on their own, because the work pretty hard. Not like us kids who sit on couthces all day and watch the "magical box"(thats what they would call it). I think :0 -Aaron Creese

  9. I agree and disagree. The British were too harsh on the colonists, and the colonists overreacted and didn't think things through. They didn't think about money or the debt they put Great Britain into when they were having the Boston Tea Party. They left out the fact that the shipping of the tea costs money, which would have to be payed by the colonists. Both sides had it coming, but if the British wouldn't have been so harsh and unfair, the colonists wouldn't have rebelled as they did. They were meant to separate and form the United States, but the outbreaks shouldn't have happened. Joy Bates

  10. I disagree with this writer, clearly he has not been informed about the colonists point of view. My guess is that he is from England, he talks about the colonists being traitors but has he realized that Great Britan never really helped the colonists. Britan is like a vampire, sucking the goods from the people. Britan never gave back to the colonists all they did was take, the colonists had to trade with other countrys because they were never getting a variety of things; only tea, sugar and others(who likes tea anyways?). Colonists were having to lie to Britan to get something flowing to help thier economy. They had to rebel so they could receive things from other countrys...

  11. the colonists wanted there freedom and that's what they fought for. There wasn't really any reason for the colonists to be so harsh besides the fact that the British were harsh back. It was exactly what we talked about in class like since the British passed the Tea act so lets dump all the tea that were about to get into the Boston harbor. I think the colonists did what was right i mean look were we are today it would probably be totally different. The propaganda seemed to get those neutralists on our side. Jake Bowman ( the "boss")

  12. I disagree, the writer is probly british and been told from Englands point of view. England was being under-protective of the colonies, the colonists were having to survive on thier own even when the king said that they couldnt trade with anybody but England(and they were doing a bad job of it anyway)I'm glad that the colonists rebelled against England because they were being treated like a 2-year old. England was being unfair to the colonists and why even send people halfway across the world and not expect them to rebel?

  14. I disagree and agree with the writer. The colonist were rebellious and excited for the freedom, while the British were watching over the colonist and telling them what to do. The colonist didn't need them and didn't want them to set the rules for them. I belive the colonist had a right to be free from the British. Altough I don't belive it was right for the colonist to put Great Britain in debt by wasting all of the tea. Even though Great Britain made the colonist mad it wasn't right to put them in debt.

  15. I disagree with the writer i think the colonist should have the right. They were just taking orders form one of there biggest enemies. If they didnt rebell they would still probabally be taking orders from Britain. All though this rebellion led to a great war it was a very smart move by the colonist. - Austin Iven

  16. I disagree with the writer. He probably is influenced by a British opinion.
(Especially considering the way he spelled 'rumours'...).Who ever he is getting all his information from mighjt not know all the facts. Yes, the Colonists were very quick to complain, but at the same time, Britain was being very harsh with some their new acts.
Also, how Thomas Payne said, everything natural at one point splits apart. In the same way, we as children will one day leave home for college. It is just a natural thing to do.. You can't tell nature what to do, it just happens.

  17. I have to say that I completely agree with the writer. The colonists did not in fact have any legal rights to what they claimed and, as the writer states, they were living better than most were back in Britain. The colonists displayed what is basically just greed. They were doing fine and didn't have it bad at all. The only reason the British became more harsh was because the colonists continued to over react to the smallest things, including but not limited to, the taxes directly following a war that they caused and then did not pay for. So in conclusion, while I love America, it's true that they did not actually have any right or real reason to rebel.- Emma Hinkley

  18. England was treating the colonists unfairly. Well I'm pretty sure the colonists were thinking enough is enough. Let's fight back! England should have known that this rebellion would happen someday.

  19. I believe the Colonists had the right idea because Britain had put so many restrictions on the colonies that they felt they had no room to breathe. The writer was probably biased in some way by britain. I bet if Britain was in the colonies shoes it would have done the same thing. They took their trades with other countries and even some lives. Though it may seem the colonies didnt atempt peace first, they did and the king ignored it. The colonies went to the last resort in war to fight for the rightful rights.-Zach Pruente

  20. The student is absolutely wrong!! Britain abused the colonists of their resources and were very selfish. That gives them the right to rebel against something that's just not just. Britain also should not have taxed the colonists so much like they did. I know they needed money from the war but they should not have taxed them like that in the first place.

  22. I disagree with this student. I believe that he has taken the British' side on this one. Britain did abuse the colonist rights because they used or got rid of all of their supplies/materials. They also violated all of the colonists rights. This absolutely gives us the right to fight back. He is wrong!!!

I disagree with the person who wrote this essay because the colonists had good reason to be mad at the British. I do understand how propaganda was used to exaggerate many events but even behind that there was some truth about what had really happened and those truths would anger the colonists. Because the events were overplayed I think people can say they were not really that bad but if you had to live through everything you still had to pay the taxes and give up your homes witch would have sooner or later led to a revolution, so I think that even though the events were very exaggerated they still had good reason to upset the colonists.

  24. I disagree because he thinks the british are doing the right thing by taxing the colonists so they can earn more money, but we think that they are taxing us for no reason at all.Because they are taxing us with ridiculous acts we have the right to rebel.

  25. I agree with this document. The colonist had no right to go against Britian. The king has given them freedom to do what they pleased, but he also placed laws on them. Without laws, the colonist would have drove themselves to the ground, however, they ended up fighting against these harmless laws because Britian was 'unfair'.To punish the colonist for rebelling against these laws, the king put stronger laws in place to show them that he was still incharge. The colonists should have accepted that he was the greater power, but instead they wanted to be stubborn, and ended up starting a war, put themselves in debt with 2 other. countries, and lost tons of money, just to show Britian that they didn't like his rules. In the end, although America is a thriving country today, they had no right to fight against Britian. - Hayley Fill

  26. I disagree with the writer because the British were taxing and taking advantage of the colonists. The colonists finally had enough of it so the left. The taxing was too much, to have taxes on everything they had. The British taxed paper documents and that was unfair but they did not care. That is why I disagree with the writer. The British were treating the colonists unfair and not making the same rules for their self. The colonists decided to leave and make their own rules and leave the British. - Mia Schulze

  30. I disagree with the student's essay and believe that the colonists had the right to break away from Britain. The British were not as innocent and nice as the author of the essay makes them look. The British were not fair and did not let the colonists have as much freedom as the essay describes. King George III kept taxing the colonists on all sorts of things from documents and wills to tea. When other acts were repealed, others took their place. As said at appraisercentral.com, the main idea was to get more and more money for Britain, especially the king. The colonists also sent the king the Olive Branch Petition, asking for peace and a settlement. The king did nothing for peace, so the only option left was war since the British kept irritating the colonists.

  32. I agree and disagree with the writer. The colonists were really childlike and didn’t think over things as much. They complained over small things and so Britain had to be a little stricter with them. But Britain was really harsh and unreasonable, with the taxes and etc. So, if the colonists wouldn’t have been so whiny and if the British wouldn’t have been so harsh, the wars wouldn’t have been so bad after all.

  34. I disagree with the essay. The colonists had a moral and legal right to break away from Britain. I believe this to be true because John Locke taught that people had rights, and when their rulers’ treatment was unfair, the people had a right to change the government. The King of England was unfairly taxing the colonies without representation and taking away their rights. The leaders in the colonies used newspapers to keep the colonists informed of unfair treatment by the King and Parliament. The author calls this propaganda, but I think the colonists were just trying to keep people informed. The author on http://www.crf-usa.org/foundations-of-our-constitution/natural-rights.html supports this view.

  38. I disagree with the writer. The Brithish were being way out of reason with all of their rules and acts, for evample: mercantilism, navigation acts, stamp act, townshend acts, intolerable acts, tea acts etc. Any person would get angry about having to pay that much money. I think Britian took advantage of the colonists thinking they would do whatever they said. The colonists just got tired of being told what to do and were done putting up with Britian being rediculous. They were just standing up for themselves showing that they werent going to let Britian push them around.http://www.debate.org/debates/Were-the-colonists-justified-in-revolting-against-the-British/1/

  39. I disagree with the report because of how much damage was done to the colonies by Britain. From the Quartering Acts, that took colonists space and privacy, to the Sugar Act that placed taxes on many common things that people had to buy. I believe that the U.S. Should be independent from Britain and can be independent from Britain, which will help the state of the colonies.

  40. I'm about half and half. I believe that the British were unjust in their reasoning. They believed that the colonies were just toys that they could abuse and and treat however they pleased. I also believe that Colonies overreacted on a lot of things and used to much propaganda and over exaggerated way to much. I do, however. believe that Britain had no right to tax the Colonists as much as they did. A little tax is fine, but tax to much and the people will start to rebel. I believe that we did have the right reasons to Revolt.
